Title: Josie Mae’s Newborn Session at 41 Days Old
Josie Mae’s newborn session was extra special. Born 10 weeks early, she spent the first part of her life in the NICU fighting to grow and get strong. After a tough journey, she finally came home in June to her loving family. While newborns are usually photographed within the first 14 days of life for the best posing results, NICU babies are a little different. Their sessions get pushed back so they can stay in the hospital and keep growing—and that can make posing unpredictable. But Josie Mae surprised us all and posed beautifully! Despite some tummy trouble the week before, she eased into poses like a natural. I knew we were in for a good session when she slipped right into froggy pose with barely any fuss!
One of the biggest perks of photographing older newborns—especially NICU graduates—is the chance of getting those elusive little smiles. Josie Mae didn’t disappoint! She flashed a few grins my way, and they melted my heart. The entire session moved so quickly because she was such a great little model. Mom had a special request for a heart box photo to match big sister’s newborn picture, and I was thrilled to recreate that setup. While I haven’t seen the original photo yet, I can’t wait for mom to compare them side-by-side. It’s always so meaningful to honor family traditions like that in photos.
Big sister Oakley absolutely stole the show when it was her turn! She was bursting with energy and stories—from baby sister’s crying to MeMaw’s dogs—and even invited me to her house. She was so proud of Josie Mae and more than ready to jump in for pictures with her mom and baby sis. Their sibling shot was so precious, and I can already picture them growing up side by side—laughing, bonding over Starbucks runs, and experimenting with fun hairstyles.
