There is something so raw and emotional about lifestyle sessions. And you would think lifestyle sessions are the easiest to capture but I find them very hard, but fun! For a posed photographer you do everything, you set, pose, get everything perfect and snap. Lifestyle is truly catching things in the moment and while this seems easy just imagine yourself in front of a camera. Do you act yourself in front of one or do you look at the camera and smile? Most people are the latter. It’s just difficult to let yourself go in front of someone that doesn’t normally share your intimate moments everyday. But if I can get people to open up and let those moments in, I photograph those every time! They are my absolute favorite. Have you noticed all my favorite photos I post are when families are looking at each other instead of me.
Despite how beautiful I think lifestyle photography is, I love being a posed newborn photographer. I find such beauty in it. If I could merge the two completely I would, but that would make for a 8 hour session instead of a 4 hour one. WHEW! I just don’t think I could stomach 80 degree heat for that long. But even in a lifestyle session you’ll see me sneak in a couple posed images too 😉
So after much thought, I recently decided to offer lifestyle newborn sessions and introduced it this year. The Nugent family who were expecting their third boy contacted me and saw the posed and lifestyle options and really loved both equally. I should say Leigh couldn’t decide. So we got together to discuss the different options of each session, pros and cons list. Even after Leigh wasn’t convinced one way or another but when she turned to John to ask his opinion, he was lifestyle all the way. It’s nice when someone can help in the decision making so strongly LOL. I say that with laughter but seriously, there are times I would kill for my husband to decided where we’re gonna eat! Can I get a AMEN from the ladies please.
I definitely was excited for the day. I like trying new things and expanding my speciality into other areas of my business. Little Judah was a cute little thing, he was bound to be, he has some pretty cute big brothers too. I always connect with kids 3 years and older so I enjoy getting siblings involved in the session. I told the boys to play and I set Judah on the floor, I always envisioned this shot and I have to say it turned out pretty sweet.
Of course siblings are only half the story. You have to include mom and dad with baby too. One thing that helped having a lifestyle session with Judah is he was awake for most of the session. In a posed setting that would be a tough one but with lifestyle it doesn’t matter whether baby is asleep or awake. Although you wouldn’t think it in these pictures but he just cat napped throughout his entire shoot. I guess if I had that much excitement going on in my house, I wouldn’t want to fall asleep either.
All and all it was a fun time together. I really enjoyed the moments I was able to capture. Now Judah can be snuggled by thousands of people! Not only does he have his own family to cuddle on, he has a great church family at Temple Baptist in Ruston. Since John is the youth pastor there, everyone is giddy to meet the newest little lamb of the church family.
Thanks again to the Nugent family for letting me capture the moments. To Judah, I pray you will grow up loving God personally. That you would be used as a servant to God’s work and people would see His love through you so strong that it would cause conviction to serve Him too.
