Sadie | Ruston LA Cakesmash Photographer

Oh Sadie, how fun it was planning and photographing your first year. Like any cakesmash session, parents and I work together to build a set according to parent’s vision. This most always is centered around their first birthday party theme, although I have had some who go a different route from the party theme. For many, parent’s can’t decide on an exact theme till closer to baby’s 1st birthday. Not so with Sadie’s mom, she knew when she was born that she wanted to do a Winnie the Pooh theme. Since her nursery is decorated in “Winnie the Pooh” theme, it was only natural to have a first birthday in the same theme. And what a cute lil Pooh Bear she was!

I remember exactly where I was when I started planning the set for the session. Traveling hours in a Dodge Caravan with my family and my in-laws as we traveled to Colorado for a family vacation in the Rocky Mountains. Definitely an exciting place to be, but the 20 something mile drive is B-R-U-T-A-L. I absolutely loathe riding in a car for hours, I’d much rather fly. The long trek across the flatlands of Texas prompted me to do a little work.

I DO love to design cakesmash sets.  I’ve always enjoyed art and while photography is an art, these sets I get to work with my hands to create pieces to make these. I’ll admit, some themes I’m given, stump me. I don’t like loud characters and instead like to create pieces from a theme to give you hints of the theme instead of throwing it up all over the room. This can prove to be challenging sometimes. This one was one of those, but I think the end result was perfect. Bee hives, “Hunny” pots, Hundred Acre Wood sign complete with a wooded scene backdrop, and a balloon garland with the colors of the Pooh characters represented. Of course who can forget that “Hunny” cake made by Uptown Downtown in Ruston.

Not only did I get to photograph Sadie at One year, but also at newborn and 6 months as well. As always I offer separate sessions but I also offer a whole year package that includes newborn, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. But every year I offer a limited amount of a very special package called my “Stages” package. It includes a newborn, 6 month, and 12 month session along with the entire gallery at each session. This is an exclusive package, only offered during our Black Friday sale. Originally it does not include a cakesmash session but you are able to add it for an additional cost. Sadie’s mom took advantage of the sale last year and purchased one of those Stages Packages and the rest is documented here for you to see. Such a sweet little nugget!
