Can yāall believe it! Iām actually writing a blog post!! I have totally dropped the ball on blogging sessions and I hate that. I know some amazing photographers who crush it in their business and blog like machines. I unfortunately am not that person. I decided to check the date of my last blog post. WOWā¦.May 3, 2017 *insert cringe emoji*. So Iām not going to jump the gun and say Iām going to be an amazing blogger now, but Iāll at least say Iāll do better. I wonāt wait 3 years to write another at least that promise I can keep!
I got to meet Knox before his newborn session, at least he didnāt know he met me. His momma KatelynnĀ had contacted me inquiring about a maternity session back in the fall. My response when anyone asks about a maternity session is āwould you like just a maternity session or are you thinking of a newborn session as wellā. I always ask because I have a great MATERNITY & NEWBORN PKG that includes the sessions and digitals within one price. Itās actually my most popular package. Itās always exciting for me to book a package, knowing I get to see the journey of my little clients. Katelynn is such a beautiful momma, I immediately was drawn to her red hair. What can I say I love red hair, thatās why Iāve kept mine red for 5 years. My favorite Disney princess is Merida from Brave. Mainly because sheās got red hair, sheās spunky, independent, speaks with an Irish accent, and I love the music. I was certain I had Irish in me because of my love of folk music and my freckles. And while I donāt have a true head of red hair, I do have a strawberry blonde tone to my natural color (mostly blonde but who cares right). Turns out I do! Iām 30% Irish according to my DNA test. I knew I had some in there.
I was curious to whether Knox would have red hair, but he surprised me and came in with a head of what looked like brown hair. That doesnāt mean it wonāt change and turn red, baby hair changes ALL THE TIME. I had one client whoās baby had almost jet black hair as a newborn and now that kid has golden blonde hair. My daughter had bright red hair for years, now itās a strawberry blonde and only on certain days does it have that red tint easily seen. Seriously you never know what their hair or any of their features will look like when they grow up.
Well Knox didnāt disappoint for his session! He posed in every pose with no major fuss. I think he only cried when he tee-teed on the blanket and himself, the rest of the time he did this. Slept the day away.
Itās been awhile since Iāve used my milk bucket. I have quite a few different boxes and buckets, they are my favorite finds at antique shops. Itās really hard to find good antique shops. Many junk shops carry trash and call it antiques. Not that you canāt find treasures among junk, but you gotta have patience to sift through tons of mess. I donāt have that patience. Iām the one at the consignment sales pushing 3 hangers of clothes at a time cause Iām tired of shopping. Itās not ideal, I know, to be so impatient but Iāve been that way since the first of ever and donāt see myself changing anytime soon. But I enjoy getting things that have so much history and I like to think of who used it before and the stories they hold. And theyāre beautiful pieces to include with newborn sessions.
Iām so thankful for Katelynn trusting me to photograph this journey for Knox! It never gets old thinking of how many newborns Iāve become apart of their story. I canāt believe this will be 6 years photographing newborns for me. Itās humbling and exciting to see the last blog posts and the photos I take now and how much Iāve improved and changed. It took years to see the style I wanted and achieving that style that is my own. I praise God for giving me the opportunity to work in something that I enjoy.
