Adelia | Ruston LA Cakesmash Photographer

Adelia—sweetly nicknamed “Addie”—came to the studio for her one-year cakesmash session. Her Aunt had wanted to surprise her with this special session, booking it as a gift for both Addie and her mom. They drove all the way up from DeRidder, Louisiana, making this session even more meaningful. What a beautiful and thoughtful gesture from her Aunt! When they arrived, I immediately understood why she wanted photos of Addie—this little girl was just precious, with the kind of sweet eyes that instantly draw you in.

Mom had carefully planned a “soft cowgirl” birthday theme, sending me photos of soft pinks, cowgirl-inspired props, and all the delicate touches that would make the set unique. To match her vision, I created an airy setup with florals, soft tans and pinks, layers of tulle, and just a hint of cowgirl details. The cake from Social Bites of Ruston tied it all together seamlessly, with its soft colors and sweet design blending perfectly into the set. I loved how it all came together—airy, girly, and with a hint of country charm.

Before diving into the themed set, we started with a simple white backdrop and an embroidered dress mom brought for some classic studio portraits. Addie was much more serious than her family expected, as they explained she is usually a very smiley baby. This is something I see often as a one year photographer in Ruston, Louisiana—it’s not uncommon for babies to feel shy in a new setting. With the bright lights, props, and all eyes on them, little ones can sometimes take time to warm up. Even still, we captured some timeless, sweet portraits that highlighted her natural beauty and those unforgettable eyes.

Once we switched over to the cakesmash setup, Addie’s personality really began to peek through. I styled her in a soft jean romper paired with a floral pink headband, which looked absolutely perfect against the cowgirl-inspired set. The moment she was placed in front of her cake, she immediately reached for it! I had to stay on my toes to make sure I captured every moment before the cake disappeared. But unlike some babies who dive right in, Addie was meticulous, taking dainty little bites. She worked steadily and gracefully on her cake until she decided she was officially done—no second guessing!

In the end, Addie’s session gave us a gallery full of beautiful, memorable moments, even if she was a bit more serious than usual. Her cakesmash pictures reflect both her delicate little personality and the thoughtful love of her family, especially her Aunt who made this session possible.
