Ledger | Ruston LA Baby Photographer

Ledger’s – It’s Hard Being A Baby

Ledger arrived for his newborn session sleeping soundly in his car seat, the kind of start every photographer hopes for. His tiny features were pure sweetness—rosy cheeks, peach fuzz blonde hair, and a peaceful little expression. As I looked at his delicate red-toned skin, I knew a soft, warm blue blanket paired with a gentle peachy tan would complement him perfectly for his posed setups. The colors came together beautifully and made his sweet complexion glow.

We began the session with a full belly and a sleepy baby, the perfect combo for posing. Ledger melted into each setup during the first half of the session, and I loved seeing how well he transitioned from one pose to the next. But when we reached the second half, things shifted. He suddenly became much fussier. It felt like a bit of tummy trouble had crept in—something many newborns deal with.

When babies cry suddenly and loudly during posing with no apparent reason, gas is often the culprit. Gassy babies are some of the most challenging to pose. There’s no surefire fix, and sometimes we just have to wait it out with gentle patience. Ledger took several feeding breaks, which can also be a sign of gas (hunger and gas pains can feel very similar for babies). We worked carefully, shooting in between the fussy moments, and even though it wasn’t easy, he eventually tired himself out and gave us a few more sleepy setups.

Despite the tummy troubles, Ledger rocked five out of six poses and we even got through the family photos. During his breaks, I had the sweetest time catching up with his mom, Becca. She’s the owner of Reverie Hair in Ruston, and is incredibly talented and well known around town. I’ve known Becca for years, and I always enjoy when I get to reconnect with old friends during these sessions. The session ended with mom, dad, big sister, and two-year-old Ace for family pictures. While Ace wasn’t too thrilled to pause playing for photos, we managed to get him to freeze for enough time for a few useable pictures—and honestly, that’s what I love the most: real life, as it is.

If you’re expecting and would love to book your own posed newborn session, I’d be honored to capture your little one just as they are. You can contact me HERE and check out more information and pricing for posed sessions at this link: https://lavenderharvestphoto.com/newborn/.
