Sweet Studio Smiles with One-Year-Old Skyler

When Skyler’s MeMe reached out to book a one-year studio session for her grandson, I was so happy to hear from her! She wanted to document this precious milestone with timeless studio portraits—and not a cakesmash, just sweet images that would celebrate his first birthday in a classic, meaningful way. Luckily, the summer months offer a little flexibility in my schedule, so I was able to get them in quickly before the calendar fills up with fall sessions. I always love when grandparents take the lead in preserving these fleeting memories—it’s such a special gift.

From the moment Skyler walked into the studio, he was full of joy. He came in grinning and I honestly don’t think he ever stopped. His mom brought his birthday present—a little bike with a handle to help him balance—and you could tell he felt so big sitting on it. He looked absolutely adorable and so proud, and the bike was the perfect touch to add a bit of his personality and stage of life to the session.

Toddlers can be tricky sometimes, and I always prepare families for sessions that may last up to an hour and a half—some little ones need time to adjust to a new space, the camera, and all the flashes. But Skyler? He was a dream. He was perfectly comfortable and wandered around the studio floor like he owned the place, smiling the entire time. It was a relaxed, joyful shoot that allowed us to capture so many natural moments that showcased his sweet spirit and contagious dimples.
