Title: Celebrating Connor’s One Year with a Puppy-Themed Cakesmash
I have truly loved watching Connor grow through his Bud to Bloom package, seeing him every three months and capturing all his little milestones. It’s always bittersweet when we reach the final session because I won’t get to see these sweet families as often. Connor’s personality has blossomed so much over the past year, and it’s been such a joy to witness his silly, playful side come alive. One of the sweetest things about Connor is how much he adores his big sister Ava Kate—he’s always watching out for her and following wherever she goes.
For Connor’s one year cakesmash, mom chose a delightful puppy theme, which was perfect since their whole family loves dogs. I even used to bring my miniature poodle to Ava Kate’s milestone sessions, and she always loved having him around in the studio. We went for a classic look with subtle puppy touches that tied everything together beautifully. Fun fact: the balloon colors we used matched a similar palette from my last cakesmash session — those soft blues, green plaids are definitely popular right now! A special highlight was Connor wearing a custom bubble embroidered with a puppy and his name by his talented “Goldie.” Mom also suggested a sweet bubble sized 12-18 months for him to eat cake in, and although it looked big at first, it fit him just right.
Connor was quite busy throughout the session, often eating his cake on the run! We had to keep sitting him back down to encourage more cake time, and I even caught a hilarious “mad face” from him when I gently placed him down yet again. Meanwhile, big sister Ava Kate kept patiently asking when it would be her turn to “take pictures with the cake”—aka eat some cake herself. She showed such great patience, and when it was finally her turn, Connor stayed the longest he ever had by the cake, probably because he loved sharing the moment with his sister. It was pure joy to watch Connor completely smash that cake, leaving only crumbs behind.
