Nolan Kate’s Bow & Doll Cakesmash

Nolan Kate is the kind of baby you’d expect to see modeling for Gerber—round cheeks, sparkling eyes, and the sweetest expressions. For her cakesmash session, we kept things playful yet classic with a bow and doll theme. To set the scene, we used a simple backdrop from Kate Backdrop. I absolutely love working with their backdrops because they photograph so naturally and always complement my studio lighting. We began the session with Nolan Kate in a darling blue dress that her mom picked out. She brought along her baby doll—who even had its own high chair for the occasion! To add a touch of whimsy, we incorporated a sweet little baby buggy, which Nolan Kate gleefully scooted around the studio. These small, personal touches made the photos feel extra special and showcased her joyful personality before we introduced the cake.

When it came time for cake, Nolan Kate wasn’t quite sure what to think. Instead of diving in, she adorably offered bites to us first. Her first taste resulted in a gag—she clearly wasn’t impressed at first! This is surprisingly common, especially for little ones whose parents avoid giving them sugar in the first year. When babies aren’t accustomed to sweets, cake can be overwhelmingly sweet. Eventually, she nibbled a few bites, but she never fully embraced it. Still, her reactions were absolutely priceless! The cake itself, created by Heather at Social Bites, was stunning as always and made the set even more beautiful.

We wrapped up the session with Nolan Kate in a soft, white romper that gave the photos a timeless, classic feel. These simple studio shots captured her personality just as sweetly as the themed set.
