The Miller Family Welcomes Baby Sara
I have been blessed to photograph the Miller family for several years now, and each time feels like catching up with old friends. I first met Amy at my booth at The Ruston Peach Festival years ago. She was pregnant with her son, Brock, and told me she had been searching for a newborn photographer in Ruston, Louisiana—then there I was! Since then, I’ve had the joy of seeing them about once a year, documenting Brock’s milestones and watching him grow into a sweet little boy. Now, I had the privilege of meeting the newest addition to their family, precious baby Sara.
When the family arrived at my studio in Jonesboro, the first one through the doors was Brock. He looked a little tired, which is so understandable with a new baby at home. He quietly found one of my toy trains and began playing on the floor while mom and dad settled in. It’s always heartwarming to see how older siblings adjust to sharing attention with a newborn, and Brock was handling it in the sweetest way.
As soon as I laid eyes on Sara, I had a sense of déjà vu—she looked so much like her big brother’s newborn photos that it was like seeing twins born years apart! Family pictures went beautifully, with Sara sleeping soundly as she was passed into each person’s arms. These early family portraits are treasures, capturing the connection and love that surround a baby in those first few weeks. Since dad needed to return to work and Brock had to head to school, we wrapped up family portraits first, which is something I always accommodate for busy families.
When it was time to move into Sara’s posed newborn photos, she was an absolute dream. She fussed just a little here and there, but with her pacifier she calmed right down and settled into each pose. She looked absolutely beautiful in soft, neutral tones that highlighted her delicate newborn features—those tiny fingers, perfect cheeks, and sweet lips. Posed newborn sessions are always such a joy because they highlight those fleeting details that change so quickly in the first few weeks of life.
