Title: Sweet Mini Session with Eann

When Kayleigh reached out last week about scheduling a newborn session for her little boy, Eann, I had to explain that a quick turnaround wasn’t possible—he was already two weeks old. Ideally, newborn sessions are booked well before baby arrives. The best window for scheduling is during your 2nd–3rd trimester, while you’re still pregnant, so we can secure a tentative spot on my calendar. I know that sounds a little wild since no one knows exactly when baby will make their entrance, but having that due date penciled in gives me the flexibility to adjust when your little one finally arrives.

This planning is so important because it helps me prepare for the number of babies expected each month. It allows me to keep my schedule balanced while still making sure I can give every family the time and attention they deserve. I do my best to squeeze in last-minute sessions when I can, but families who book ahead always receive first priority. That’s not to discourage anyone—it’s more of a friendly public service announcement. Many new parents simply don’t realize how crucial that early scheduling can be for those dreamy, sleepy newborn poses.

The reason that window matters so much is because babies between 7–13 days old are at their sleepiest and most flexible, which makes posing much easier and more comfortable for them. Once babies get a little older, they tend to be more alert, more curious, and not quite as eager to stay curled up in those classic poses. I’ve had many parents contact me later than that, and we simply make it work with what baby is comfortable doing. That’s where newborn mini sessions come in handy—they’re designed with flexibility in mind, offering both a baby-only option or a family option depending on your needs.

Kayleigh was so understanding about the challenges of photographing an older baby and chose the family option for her mini session. It turned out to be the perfect choice because Eann came in wide awake and ready to take on the world. We wrapped him in a beautiful light green swaddle that not only complemented his soft skin tone but also tied in perfectly with his family’s attire. Sometimes it feels like everything aligns just right, and this was one of those moments—an easy win for the gallery.

One of my favorite parts of the session was watching mom, dad, and big brother interact with Eann. There was so much joy and laughter as they snuggled together, and you could already tell that Eann is surrounded by a fun and loving family. Even without the classic sleepy poses, the photos we captured told a story that was uniquely theirs—full of personality, connection, and warmth. That’s what makes family sessions so special to me: every gallery reflects the heart of that family in their current season of life.

While every session is different, Eann’s mini reminded me that sometimes the unexpected moments turn out to be the best ones. Babies don’t always follow the “ideal” timeline, and that’s okay—we adjust and capture their story as it unfolds. If you’re expecting and want to make sure your own newborn session is secured, I’d love to chat. You can contact me HERE and explore more information and pricing for my newborn mini sessions HERE.
