John Martin | Ruston LA Newborn Photographer

Title: Sweet John Martin’s Studio Newborn Session

When John Martin was born, his mom reached out to me about booking a newborn session. I was so glad to hear from her, and while I was able to work him into my schedule, I always like to gently remind expecting mamas that the best time to book a posed newborn session is during your second or third trimester. It guarantees your baby a spot on my calendar no matter when they arrive, and it removes the stress of trying to find availability during those early, sleepless weeks. Over the last year, I’ve had more families contact me after baby arrives, and while I try to accommodate every request, it’s truly a toss-up if I’ll have space for them.

Thankfully, the “stars aligned” for John Martin, and I was able to fit him into my calendar! Because we scheduled later than usual, we had to photograph him at an older age than I typically recommend for posed newborn sessions—but he did so incredibly well. His mom, Destiny, had sent over some family inspiration pictures that she hoped we could recreate. I loved seeing her vision, and it’s always such a fun challenge to take a mama’s Pinterest board or family ideas and bring them to life in the studio.

As we chatted during his session, I learned that Destiny works in management for Lauren Roebuck Designs in Ruston. If you’re local, you know how beautiful and creative their work is, and it was such a treat to talk with someone who also works in a creative field. We chatted about how rewarding it is to get to create for others and how fulfilling it can be to pour passion into your career. I felt like I was talking to someone who just “gets” what it’s like to live and work in a space where creativity and business intersect.

After family shots, it was time to start posing John Martin. He transitioned so easily from one pose to the next, sleeping peacefully through every setup. I’ve had a streak of girl babies lately—which means lots of floral setups and headbands—so it was a refreshing change to pull out my sleepy caps and simple props. His soft blonde hair caught the light in the loveliest way, and I loved how peaceful and classic his gallery turned out.

Even though he was a little older than my usual posing window, John Martin was a rockstar. I’m so thankful I got to capture this sweet season for his family and help preserve these memories that pass all too quickly. He reminded me that while I love having my tiny clients in during that 7-13 day sweet spot, sometimes the older babies surprise me with just how well they pose and sleep!

If you’re expecting and hoping to book a posed newborn session of your own, I would love to help you plan something special. You can contact me here to inquire about availability, and view more details and pricing at this link. Don’t wait too long—get on my calendar early to reserve your baby’s perfect spot!
