Raelyn’s Session: Ponies, Saddles & Sweet Snuggles

Raelyn was an absolute beauty from the moment she arrived—her soft blonde hair and those perfect round cheeks made her look like a real-life baby doll. Every feature was just picture-perfect. It didn’t take long to see that this little girl has her daddy wrapped completely around her tiny finger. He doesn’t usually jump in front of the camera, but he had one very specific request: a photo of Raelyn on his saddle. He was all smiles talking about how he couldn’t wait to blow that photo up big and hang it proudly. And if that wasn’t sweet enough, he shared how he’s already planning a savings account to make sure she has all the ponies her heart desires. 🐴

This session felt extra special for me, not just because of Raelyn but because of her mama, Whitney. I’ve known Whitney for a long time—since school days with her older sister. Years ago, she even worked for me during the early days of my photography business. Back then, she was dating her now-husband, Logan. Watching their story come full circle, now with baby Raelyn in the picture, was a full-circle moment that filled my heart. Logan is also part of my husband’s family, and I always loved hearing stories from him about my husband’s grandfather, who developed Alzheimer’s disease when I met him, leaving me to never know him how those who loved him remembered him. It’s always a gift to hear stories that keep loved one’s memories alive.

Raelyn did so well during her session, even if she made me work a little! She was a tiny bit fussy between poses and didn’t love being moved around much—but once she settled, she drifted off to sleep and gave me the most precious moments to capture. It’s always amazing how these little ones, even when they have preferences, seem to know when it’s time to shine in front of the camera.

One fun picture came at the end of the session. We wrapped Raelyn in her daddy’s fire fighter blanket for one final photo. Knowing how proud Logan is of his job and community, I know that picture is going to be a big hit with all his fellow firemen. It’s a sweet little tribute to the newest addition to the firehouse family and a photo I know they’ll get a kick out.
